FAQ

Everything you want to know before flying

How high do we fly?

We usually fly between 150 and 500 metres, where the views and sensations are at their best. Higher flying and cloud-surfing may sometimes be possible, subject to temperature, weather and operational limits. Flights do not operate above 3,000 metres without the oxygen equipment that altitude would require.

How fast do we fly?

Cruising speed is around 80 km/h. The aircraft is slightly faster during take-off and slower during landing.

Is it dangerous?

This category of aircraft is designed to glide rather than fall if the engine stops. Much like a sailplane with an engine, it can glide back towards a safe landing area in an emergency. The aircraft is also equipped with a whole-aircraft emergency parachute designed to bring the aircraft down slowly.

Will I feel sick?

We adapt the intensity of the flight to you — from a smooth, gentle glide to a more adrenaline-filled experience. Tell Guillaume how you are feeling at any time through the headset.

Can we fly under the Northern Lights?

Unfortunately, this aircraft cannot be flown at night. Flights are limited to daylight and suitable weather. In winter, this generally means normal daytime hours; in summer, the midnight sun can make much later flights possible.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We operate with strict weather minimums and cannot fly when winds are too strong, cloud is too low or snowfall affects safe operations. We aim to update you three days before your flight and will work with you to find the best alternative time when necessary.

What clothes should I wear?

It feels colder in flight than on the ground. Temperature falls with altitude, and flying at around 80 km/h adds significant wind chill. Bring the warmest suitable clothing in your suitcase; we will also provide extra protective layers before the flight.

What if my flight is cancelled because of bad weather?

If you have other availability, we will do our best to rebook you. If no suitable alternative can be found, you will receive a full refund and a discount towards a luckier visit next time.

Do you offer group discounts?

For larger groups, email contact@birds-way.com and we can organise something special.

Can we fly for more than one hour?

Yes. For longer flights, contact us at contact@birds-way.com to discuss the duration and route you are interested in.

Can I take pictures during the flight?

Handheld photography is not permitted during the flight. Instead, we offer an optional video recording made with a 360° camera mounted at the wingtip. The finished video is sent to you by email a few days after your tour.

What can companions do while I fly?

Your group can watch the first and final minutes from the ground, wave and take photographs. They can then relax in our office with cookies and warm drinks, track the aircraft on a live map and learn about the aircraft and landmarks around Rovaniemi.

I am disabled or have a medical condition. Can I fly?

Please tell us as early as possible. The activity is accessible to wheelchair users and we can accommodate many disabilities and medical conditions. Some situations require adaptations, and in rare cases we may be unable to accept a passenger for safety reasons. Contact us so we can assess your individual needs respectfully.

OUR COMMITMENT

Committed to sustainability — in every sense of the word

A modern four-stroke engine, quieter equipment, investment in electric aviation and long-term cooperation with local communities shape the way Bird’s Way intends to grow.

Lower-impact flying

Our aircraft uses a modern four-stroke engine with very low fuel consumption for aviation. It runs on automotive unleaded fuel rather than traditional aviation gasoline. An additional exhaust silencer and premium low-noise propeller help minimise our impact on nearby communities.

Investing in electric aviation

Air Création is developing electric propulsion for this aircraft category. Each year, Bird’s Way commits 3% of its profit to Air Création’s electric-aircraft research and development, plus 2% to Volta’s work supporting lighter, cleaner, higher-density battery technology.

Our sustainability processes have been recognised through Travelife and Sustainable Travel Finland audits.

ABOUT US

A family company born from a dream of flight

Guillaume Lagache

Bird’s Way is a family-owned ultralight scenic-flight company founded in Rovaniemi in 2025 by Guillaume Lagache. Guillaume moved from France to Finland in 2019. A bird lover since childhood, he dreamed of joining them in the sky — a dream that came true when he received his ultralight pilot licence in 2023.

His goal is simple: to share that extraordinary feeling of freedom with others. Your handsome French pilot combines careful preparation, calm professionalism and contagious enthusiasm for flight.

Zuzanna

Zuzanna is Guillaume’s wife and the person responsible for company administration and making your time with Bird’s Way as smooth as possible — from the first email to the welcome at our office. Originally from Poland, she moved to Finland in 2020, graduated in Tourism Management from the University of Lapland and brings several years of customer-service experience.

Our aircraft

We operate a custom Air Création Tanarg NEO, built by a world-leading manufacturer of motorised hang gliders. This 250 kg two-seater is powered by a modern 100 hp four-stroke engine and specially equipped for polar flying. There is no other quite like it.

Bird’s Way is the leading family-owned company for ultralight scenic flights in Finland, sharing the freedom of open-cockpit flight from its base in Rovaniemi.
